When I left work tonight my intention was to stop at two places and pick up the final items for some upcoming swaps and the grocery store for bread. Seven stores and more than a few dollars later I had what I needed (other than dinner) and headed home. I covered all the swaps (3), two Christmas presents and a birthday present; not bad considering I really didnt’ have a plan. What amazed me about the whole thing was the lack of shoppers at the mall. I went into one of the anchor stores at its children / accessories department door ... my truck was the only car in that parking lot. It was eerie. I passed less than a handful of other customers and the employees were so bored they were falling over themselves to help me. The lady in cosmetics was so desperate to give away one of their ‘free gifts’ that I ended up with one in my bag even though I didn’t buy her brand (Lancome - nice!). I felt badly for them, especially because they have started holiday hours and are currently open a half hour longer than normal. We are suffering in my business too. We should be at our busiest right now, but there seems barely enough to keep the guys busy. Its scary really. How’s the business in your neck of the woods?
